Fountain Spirit - the RotMG Wiki (1)

The Fountain Spirit is the boss of the Magic Woods.

The Realm Eye says:

Fountain Spirit - the RotMG Wiki (2)

The living spirits offered in the fountain of the Magic Woods breathed life into the waters.
Dozens of souls became a single entity allowing the humans to transform into ageless fairies.
In doing so, they forfeited their independent consciousness in favor of the fountain possessing all of their combined spirits.

Behavior

At first, the Fountain Spirit is concealed within a watery structure which deals armor-breaking damage if penetrated. It must be shot down in order to reveal the Spirit hiding inside.

When a player is first detected, the four smaller fountains surrounding the principal one will start spawning random Magic Woods enemies. The fountain spirit will then taunt:

  • ”Ah, so you must be the guest I have felt the presence of! Strike my flowing waters and I shall richly reward you!”
  • “In an eternity with US!”

The structure will subsequently start lobbing AoE explosions, alternating between the four cardinal directions and diagonally.

Once its protective structure is broken, the Fountain Spirit emerges, heals itself, and begins attacking players. It randomly alternates between five phases:

  • Aggressively chases players in a fashion similar to Limon the Sprite Goddess while firing a burst of aimed spikes in an arc. Once the phase ends, it moves back to the center;
  • Circles players while firing a moderately spread arc of huge, aimed bullets. Once the phase ends, it moves back to the center.
  • Remains stationary while firing moderately-damaging bolts in a circle and aimed, non-damaging armor-breaking shots;
  • Remains stationary while firing radial bursts of aimed, unstable boomerang spinners and zig-zagging, parametric shots;
  • Remains stationary while rapidly firing slow-moving, parametric bullets which deal high damage. Repels approaching players with a tight spread of wave-like shots.

Tips and Strategies

  • The Fountain Spirit is a boss that can be dealt with by most players, even those who haven’t reached level 20 yet. Melee classes might have a harder time with it due to its occasionally jittery movement and radial bursts of bullets, though.

  • If you have maxed defense, a good chunk of the Fountain Spirit’s attacks are mildly distracting at best. Still, pay mind to the spawned fairies which might occasionally rush in your direction and inflict various status effects upon you depending on which fairy it is. If your defense is low, however, the Fountain Spirit can prove to be a rather challenging fight, and the few tips below should be taken into consideration.

  • For the initial phase, hugging the watery structure allows the player to completely avoid getting hit by the explosions. Don’t get in, though, it deals armor-piercing damage.

  • The chasing phases can be mitigated by Slowing abilities in order to hit the Fountain Spirit better. Take note, however, that it is immune to being Paralyzed. Be careful about not getting cornered, too!

  • While the slow-moving parametric bullets phase appears threatening due to the high damage these lazy shots hit, limiting yourself to moving vertically is sufficient to avoid all the shots coming in your direction.

  • The spiraling armor-breaking phase can be done through circling, but pay mind the armor-breaking projectile predicts movement - while it deals no damage itself, a movement miscalculation might cause the other bullets to deal heavy damage while armor broken.

  • If you kill the boss during the unstable bullets phase or parametric one, wait for all the bullets to disappear. Their properties make them all head back towards their spawning point simultaneously, which will deal severe damage to unfortunate players standing there - or may even cause the death of the character.
